Theme for Tuesday

"They don't hand out medals for trying or working hard, you are supposed to do that!"

If your coaches, teamates or parents have to spend time to get you to work hard or try to get better, you and your team are in big trouble. No one should have to motivate you to work hard, it should be a given. When you sign up for a team sport, you are giving your word and agreeing that you will try and work hard. The coaches job is to help you and the team get better. If time is spent on motivation, it takes away from you getting better. If you can't work hard and try, you should be on the sidelines, not the court.

Wednesday practice will begin earlier

Wednesday, we will begin practice as soon as you can get to the gym after school. Lets all hustle so we can get started.

Theme for November 18th

Buddhists

In western culture, it is accepted that it is not wrong to think bad thoughts, only to act on them. For example, it is generally acceptable to think "I feel like hitting Mr. Waite in the face" so long as we don't act on it. The belief is our thoughts do not negatively affect us, only our actions. On a team is this true? If you think bad thoughts about your teammates or coaches, does it have a negative impact on you and the team? Eastern philosophy would say yes. The Buddhists believe our thoughts and actions have consequences. I would submit negative thoughts about your teammates, coaches, practice, games does have a negative effect on the team and you as an individual. When it comes to teambuilding, we need to keep our thoughts and actions on a high level to reach our potential.
